The main limitation is that some improvements are refinements rather than a complete generational transformation, particularly in the camera hardware.

Samsung also introduces a built-in Privacy Display, which can restrict off-angle visibility; however, independent testing found the screen can measure slightly dimmer than the S25 Ultra despite its impressive headline brightness specification. 

Performance Analysis

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, the S26 Ultra is designed for heavy multitasking, demanding gaming, AI processing, and sustained workloads. Samsung reports a 19% CPU, 24% GPU, and 39% NPU improvement over the S25 Ultra, while its redesigned vapor chamber is claimed to improve thermal performance by 21%; independent testing also found the phone exceptionally fast in everyday use. The available memory configurations extend to 16GB RAM with 1TB storage, making the higher-end model particularly suitable for users running demanding applications and large workloads. 

Camera Analysis

The camera system combines a 200MP f/1.4 main camera, 50MP f/1.9 ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto, 50MP f/2.9 5x telephoto, and 12MP selfie camera, giving the S26 Ultra strong coverage from ultrawide through long-range photography. The wider main and 5x telephoto apertures improve light gathering, while Samsung's Nightography processing reduces noise in darker scenes; independent testing found cleaner low-light images and generally excellent daylight, portrait, and zoom results. It supports 3x and 5x optical zoom, 10x optical-quality zoom, up to 100x digital zoom, 8K/30fps recording, 4K/120fps Pro Video, and enhanced Super Steady stabilization, making it particularly capable for mobile photography and video creation. 

Pros

The strongest advantages are the excellent 6.9-inch QHD+ 120Hz display, extremely powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy performance, versatile 200MP quad-camera system, improved low-light photography, 3x/5x optical zoom, advanced video stabilization, and integrated S Pen. These features make the S26 Ultra especially compelling for power users, mobile photographers, gamers, and creators who want one device capable of handling demanding tasks. 

Cons

The biggest limitation is that the camera system represents refinement rather than a complete hardware redesign, with much of the underlying camera configuration carried over while aperture and processing improvements provide the main gains. The display also does not represent a dramatic specification upgrade over the previous generation, and independent testing has found slightly lower measured brightness than the S25 Ultra in some conditions.

9.5/10 — The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra earns a 9.5 because it combines an outstanding high-resolution 120Hz display, class-leading flagship performance, and one of the most versatile Android camera systems with useful long-range zoom and strong low-light capabilities. Its score stops short of 10 because several upgrades are evolutionary rather than revolutionary, particularly the display and core camera hardware.
